A little background on me and Mrs. Rogue

The late 90's was a hard time for me. My parents failing health, the disintegration of my first marriage, the disappearance of IT work for guys like me that started their career without a degree. (Something I am still working to fix)

During my seperation from EvilExMrsRoguev1.0 I came across Everquest, and my next 5 year addiction was sealed. I was working as a staff consultant writing Perl scripts, and playing that durn game. Sleep, food, and life in general be damned. One night I decided to play until it was time for work, and so at about 6am I was bleary-eyed and alive only due to my consumption of LITRES of coke and mountain dew. Being the suave caffeine guzzling sleep-deprived stud I am, I started flirting with the FutureMrsRogue. Little did I know that she was a Danish citizen living in Copenhagen, 5000 miles away.

Over the next 3 months we emailed back and forth 4 - 5 times a day, and I racked up a 1500$ phone bill in one month. (OUCH) Being the impulsive guy I am, I cashed out my savings and sent her plane tickets to the states. She arrived the first time in March of 2000, and it was love at first sight. Thank goodness we had talked on the phone, since she had never been on a plane and suffered through the cabin pressure changes with a slight sinus infection.

Her first trip to the states showed her the Mall of America, the Minneapolis Orchestra, Brits Pub on Nicollet, Flying in a glider, and my drooling idiot friends. She only got to stay 10 days that first time, but we parted with promises that I would travel to Denmark to visit her as soon as my passport arrived. Two months later I was aboard a 777 to Amsterdam, on my first trip across the Atlantic. I was unprepared, to say the least, for what was to come.

To be continued...
